Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is reshaping how things are done globally. Innovations such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and augmented reality are transforming various sectors, including education. In Nigeria, these technological advancements present both opportunities and challenges for teaching and learning. This paper explores the implications of 4IR innovations on the Nigerian education system, analysing how emerging technologies can enhance pedagogical practices, foster learner-centred education, and bridge existing gaps in access and quality. Drawing on recent literature and case studies, the paper examines the integration of digital tools in classrooms, the potential for personalised learning, and the necessity of equipping educators with digital competencies. The paper argues for a strategic approach to policy reform, capacity building, and public-private partnerships to harness the full potential of 4IR technologies in education. It emphasises the urgent need for proactive strategies to position Nigeria’s education sector as a driver of national development in the 4IR era.
